Local officials said the incident occurred after a firework that had been set off fell and flew into a crate of unlit fireworks, causing a series of powerful explosions that killed at least three women, two of whom died at the scene and one who died at the hospital. More than 20 people, including children, were injured. The Honolulu Police Chief said officers are investigating the incident and whether to charge the person who set off the fireworks, which also damaged nearby buildings.
